20 companies on MWC2017 said: 5G technology will be deployed on a large scale in 2019

According to CNET, a technology information website, 5G is coming, and it is earlier than people predicted. Nearly 20 companies said in Barcelona on Sunday that 5G new radio technology (5G NR) is expected to become the global next-generation wireless network standard, which will be deployed on a large scale in 2019, one year ahead of the expected 2020. Companies that have announced their 5G standards include wireless network operators, chip vendors and handset manufacturers (such as Qualcomm, Intel, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile parent company Deutsche Telekom).

“For consumers, this means they will get a faster broadband experience in 2019,” Rasmus Hellberg, senior director of technical marketing at Qualcomm, said in an interview in Barcelona.

It's worth noting that Verizon Wireless is not in it because Verizon is developing its own 5G wireless technology. Verizon said it will provide 5G technology to 11 cities by the middle of this year. It's not just a mobile wireless network, it's also a replacement for fixed broadband.

Many operators, such as AT&T, hope to promote 5G technology as soon as possible. The technology is expected to be 100 times faster than our current 4G LTE wireless technology and 10 times faster than Google Fiber physically connected to the home. Experts say that with 5G technology, we can better use virtual reality and augmented reality technology, and even many things we can't imagine today.

To this end, Qualcomm today released a modem that embeds 5G, 4G, 3G and 2G technologies on a single chip. The X50 5G processor carrying the transfer demodulator will be deployed to 5G NR devices in 2019.

Qualcomm launched its first Opteron X50 chip in October last year, but the processor only supports operators based on early standards, such as Verizon and Korea Telecom's 5G network. In general, the mobile phone chip will be backward compatible with older wireless technologies, so that when the signal of the new technology is weak, the user will not lose the call function or data connection. But when the Snapdragon X50 chip is connected to an older 4G or 3G network, the device needs a second wireless chip.

The new series of X50 chips will not require a second modem, and its exact name, Qualcomm, has not been specified. It can connect to both 5G and 4G networks, which helps users maintain a strong wireless connection.

Sherif Hanna, Qualcomm's technical marketing manager, said in an interview: "The new modem series will be used first on high-end mobile devices. Since then, we will extend this technology to non-mobile, such as fixed wireless broadband."

Although Qualcomm declined to disclose the exact time it took to provide customers with chip test samples, it said that the 2019 chip would be applied to the device.

The following is a complete list of 519 NR technology companies supporting 2019:

AT&T, NTT Docomo, South Korea SK Telecom, Vodafone, Ericsson, Qualcomm, BT, Telstra, Korea Telecom, Intel, LG Uplus, KDDI, LG Electronics, Telia, Swisscom, TIM, ETIsalat Group, Huawei, Sprint, vivo, ZTE And Deutsche Telekom. Phoenix Technology
