Compal February shipment growth of 38%

Penfold ODM maker Compal’s shipments of notebooks increased by more than 30% in February this year, exceeding its ODM competitors, including Quanta Computer, Wistron and Inventec’s notebook shipments.

Compal announced that the company shipped 2.9 million notebook computers in February and shipped 2.1 million in January, an increase of 38.1% year-on-year. In the first two months of 2012, shipments of laptops reached 5 million units.

With higher shipments, Compal's consolidated revenue in February increased 32.7% from the previous month to NT$58.08 billion. In the first two months of 2012, Compal's consolidated sales was 101.83 billion yuan, The increase was 27.3% over the same period.

Compal expects notebook shipments to be higher than expected in the first quarter, and the company expects to ship 8.1 million laptops in the first quarter.

According to reports, Acer and Lenovo are Compal's main customers. Market watchers expect Compal shipped a total of 45 million laptops in 2012. In 2011, this figure was 39 million units.
