6. First measure the outer diameter D1 of the sample, place the sample on the lifting plate, tighten the jack return valve stem, and pull the handle to raise the lifting plate. 8. Record the dial gauge reading after one minute. This value is the difference between the outer diameter D1 of the specimen and the outer diameter D2 of the flattened portion, and should not be greater than 25% of D1.
9. Loosen the fastening screw, make the adjustment rod fall, and then release the return valve stem, so that the lifting and lowering plate will slowly descend. Due to the damping effect of the jack, you may need to press the plate down by hand to reduce to the lowest point. .
10. After another one minute, use the measuring tool such as vernier caliper to measure the outer diameter D3 of the sample to be flattened. The difference between D3 and D1 should not be greater than 10% of D1.
