The HTC Viveport team officially announced today the launch of the Viveport Developer Awards for global developers to showcase, encourage and reward development teams that have created outstanding virtual reality (VR) content. The first awards in 2016 included a total of $500,000 in cash and prizes and will be awarded to those outstanding applications released on the Viveport platform early next year. The award category will be consistent with the recently released Viveport core content categories - Discover, Create, Connect, Watch, and Shop.
Launched in early August this year, the Viveport App Store, which is launched worldwide, is a collection of high-quality VR experiences covering a range of areas including education, design, arts, social networking, video, music, sports, health, fashion, travel, news, shopping, and creative tools. Viveport's goal is to popularize the world's most diversified immersive experience, while also allowing developers to reach a rapidly growing global user base, thus promoting the development of the VR ecosystem.

Entries that meet the entry rules posted on Viveport from September 19th to November 30th, 2016 are eligible for the award. Based on user popularity and VR experience, five candidates will be selected for each award category. Developers can choose whether or not to participate through the Viveport Developer Control Program after September 12. The jury members will be announced in the near future and will select the first batch of 2016 winning entries in early 2017.
