2015 saw the first truly self-driving car, several breakthrough applications, and at least one very important milestone in the virtual assistant field. IDG columnist John Brandon writes on the Computerworld website, listing the five most important advances in his mind in the technology field this year (in no particular order):
1, Tesla automatic cruise mode
This software update package makes the Tesla Model S electric car a driverless car (of course, it is not a real driverless car). One reason makes the Model S's auto-cruise mode a breakthrough: users can use it now. It costs $2,500 and it takes a night to download the software. The YouTube video shows that the Tesla auto cruise mode is quite dangerous. Many readers have complained that the auto-cruise mode does not perform as well as the driverless car in Google. This may be true, but can you buy a Google driverless car now? The answer to this question is no.
2, Dropbox Paper
Brandon's reason for including Paper in this list is not that it's groundbreaking - it's similar to Google Docs. Brandon believes that Paper has a clean, user-friendly interface, and Brandon will use it when writing articles. It's also a symbol of Dropbox products and services, and Dropbox isn't content with just a cloud storage service. The real reason why Brandon put Paper on this list is that he likes to try to recreate his own company.
3. Facebook M
Facebook M uses artificial intelligence and real people to provide services to users. Several reasons mean that it has taken a big step forward in the field of virtual assistants. One of them is the robot behind the scenes of the chat system. The chat system can quickly switch the conversation to the real person, and the real person can satisfy the user's needs, such as ordering flowers for the lover. At the same time, this is also the training of Facebook M "smart". I hope that one day these virtual assistants can help users reply to emails.
4, Amazon Prime Now
Amazon Prime Now recently landed in the Minneapolis area, which is different from mobile apps or driverless cars. Amazon has a giant warehouse in the Twin Cities. Users can order all kinds of goods including Bluetooth keyboard, cheese, and crackers, and receive the goods within 1 hour. Amazon may be reluctant to disclose more information about how this service works, but it is groundbreaking. Many users plan to use Amazon Prime Now frequently.
5, Microsoft Surface Book notebook
The Microsoft Surface Book notebook impressed all the testers. Surface Book has three important implications for Microsoft: it runs Microsoft's popular operating system and can be used as a tablet or laptop, the best notebook Brandon has ever used since the release of Chromebook Pixel 2015. Adjustable hinges and stylus with magnetic connection technology are the two highlights of the Surface Book design.
