ASUS Opens $800 VivoPC X Compact VR-Ready Host

With the rise of the VR boom, manufacturers have launched "VR-Ready" devices with compact performance or compact size. Among the more well-known are the recently launched MSI Trident 3 and the Asus G20ci. But now Asus has brought us another high-end VR device option, which is VivoPC X. The machine was actually released in January of this year. Let's review its configuration first. The VivoPC X features an Intel Core i5-7300HQ processor, 8GB RAM + 512GB M.2 SSD (optional with 1TB / 2TB HDD), and Nvidia GTX 1060 3GB alone.

The VivoPC X measures 10.2 3 11 inches (26 7.6 28 CM).

The machine has a certain degree of scalability (such as Asus reserved for it another idle M.2 slot), but rather than a compact desktop host, it is still closer to a notebook, because most of the specifications are Has been fixed on the PCB. Over time, the performance of the GTX 1060 may become a bottleneck.

In terms of input/output ports, the VivoPC X is quite rich. It provides 4 USB 3.0, 2 USB 2.0, 1 Gigabit Ethernet, and 1 DisplayPort + 2 HDMI (and 1 front HDMI) video output ports.

The retail price of the VivoPC X is $800, but Amazon also has a more affordable package that includes an Oculus Rift virtual reality headset and a Touch controller for $1,398.
