Asia's first MW (MW) solar tower thermal power generation technology application project will be located in Badaling Town, Beijing. At the end of this year, a 100-meter-high solar collector tower will stand in Dafutun Village of Badaling Town.
According to the relevant person in charge of the Yanqing Planning Branch, the MW (MW) solar tower thermal power generation technology and system demonstration project is the key project of the 11th Five-Year Plan of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China. The Institute of Electrical Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences undertakes the research and construction tasks. At the beginning of this year, it is planned to build a solar energy comprehensive laboratory and a solar heat absorption tower. Among them, the architectural style of the solar heat absorption tower will be in line with the style of the Badaling Great Wall Scenic Area. The design concept is integrated into the traditional Chinese culture and the characteristics of the Great Wall culture. After completion, it can not only undertake power generation tasks, but also become a tourist attraction. At present, the construction plan has passed the expert review and is expected to be completed and put into use by the end of the year.
The project will set up 100 heliostats on 208 acres of land, collect sunlight from the heliostats, and then reflect the heat sinks that are collected in the solar heat absorption tower. The heat absorption tower heats the water with heat, generates steam, and uses steam as a power source to generate electricity. After the completion of the project, the solar tower thermal power generation experimental power plant can generate 2.7 million kWh of electricity per year, equivalent to the electricity generated by more than 1,100 tons of standard coal, which can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 2,300 tons, sulfur dioxide by 21 tons, and nitrogen oxides by 35 tons. At present, 5-sided heliostats in the mirror field have begun to test concentrating and tracking experiments, and it is expected to be connected to the grid in 2010.
