Bourns , the world's leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic components, introduces the new high-power, ultra-low-ohmic current-sense resistor- CSS series. This latest current measurement device helps power electronics developers save energy and improve performance testing of their product designs. The CSS Series features a low temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) that maintains operational accuracy and long-term stability over a wide temperature range. Low resistance levels, low thermal emf (EMF) and the ability to operate at high power make it an ideal solution for a variety of industrial and power electronics applications, including battery management systems, switching power supplies and motor drives.

Brian Ahearne, Bourns product line manager, said the current sense resistor market is becoming more popular because of its higher measurement accuracy and lower cost compared to other technologies. Bourns introduces this new high-power current-sense resistor, allowing designers to have more accurate devices for higher-power applications and assist them in monitoring voltage drops across the resistors and converting current readings to improve circuit operation efficiency.

The Bourns CSS series offers a choice of 2 and 4 terminals. The 2 terminal models are subdivided into three different component sizes, 5930, 3920 and 2512. The four-terminal device allows for very precise 4 Kelvin (K Resistance measurement. Their metal alloy current sensing components allow low heat EMF and 50 PPM TCRs in the temperature range of 20 to 60 °C. Both series options offer resistance values ​​as low as 0.5 milliohms, and customers can choose from a range of low-resistance options and products with up to 9W power ratings.
