Corolla PHEV and Ralink PHEV's plug-in hybrid system will be the same as the US version of the Prius

There has always been a saying in the industry that gasoline-electric hybrids are divided into two categories, one is Toyota's gasoline-electric hybrids, and the other is gasoline-electric hybrids from other car companies, which is enough to see Toyota's "outstanding" in the gasoline-electric hybrid field. Awesome. Although Honda's gasoline-electric hybrid technology has advanced by leaps and bounds in recent years, it has a tendency to catch up with Toyota. But only Toyota has introduced hybrid technology to low-end models, so that ordinary people can also enjoy ultra-high fuel economy.

Toyota's Corolla dual-engine and Ralink dual-engine are priced at the same price as traditional fuel A-class vehicles on the market, plus the 4.2-liter ultra-low fuel consumption of 100 kilometers comparable to plug-in hybrid models, has always been favored by consumers. In particular, the Corolla dual-engine sales reached 55,000 units in the first half of this year, which is already an excellent result for a compact family sedan, not to mention the hybrid vehicle segment.

However, hybrid models cannot enjoy the state's policy subsidies for the field of new energy vehicles, and only some areas can hang green license plates with a lot of benefits. For example, you can buy the subsidized version of the Ralink dual-engine in Guangzhou, but this is only due to the Guangzhou local government's protection policy for GAC Toyota. Obviously, the "two brothers" of Shuangqing still have a fly in the ointment.

However, this embarrassing situation is coming to an end. Toyota decided to introduce the powertrain of the US version of the Prius plug-in version and place it on the Corolla and Ralink. That is to say, the arrival of the two plug-in hybrid models, Corolla PHEV and Ralink PHEV, which were unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show, is not too far away.

In this way, Corolla and Ralink have become PHEV models that can be subsidized by domestic policies. At the same time, due to the use of battery products from the domestic brand CATL, they can also enjoy certain subsidies.

It is understood that the Corolla PHEV model is based on the Corolla dual-engine transformation. Therefore, the appearance of the dual-engine version is continued. The only difference is that the front grille of the Corolla PHEV has a dot-matrix decoration, and the charging interface is set on the rear right side of the vehicle.

The Ralink PHEV is also based on the basic transformation of the dual-engine version. The main change in its appearance is that the front grille has enlarged the area of the black high-gloss decorative parts, making the whole vehicle look more youthful and sporty. At the same time, the high and low beams of the headlight group are upgraded to LED light sources, which is more sincere than the dual-engine version.

Judging from the information disclosed by Toyota, the plug-in hybrid system of the Corolla PHEV and Ralink PHEV will be the same as the US version of the Prius. It is composed of a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated engine, dual motors and a battery pack. The battery power is between 9-13 kilowatts, the pure electric cruising range exceeds 50 kilometers, and the charging time is controlled within 2.5 to 3 hours to fully charge.

In the case of full fuel and electricity, their maximum cruising range can even exceed 1,000 kilometers, and the official comprehensive fuel consumption is at least 1.3 liters. Even in the case of running out of power, the fuel consumption is only 0.1 liters more than the 4.2 liters per 100 kilometers of the dual-engine version.

This is much more advanced than many other domestic and joint-venture plug-in systems. Most plug-in hybrid models on the market are in a very embarrassing situation. Although mileage anxiety can be solved to a certain extent, due to the increased body weight after the placement of the motor and battery, and the low matching tacit understanding between the engine and the motor, As a result, the fuel consumption is higher than that of traditional fuel vehicles of the same displacement after the power is exhausted.

The Corolla PHEV and Ralink PHEV, thanks to Toyota's powerful hybrid technology, can achieve fuel economy close to that of the dual-engine version after no electricity. In addition, if the commuting distance is within the range of pure electric cruising range, the plug-in version of Corolla and Ralink can meet 100% low-cost green travel.

In addition, the Corolla PHEV and Ralink PHEV only add a battery to the dual-engine version, so the price should not be much higher.

Although everyone knows that the cost of battery car power batteries is not cheap, considering that Corolla and Ralink, who are promoted to plug-in hybrid models, can enjoy various benefits of the new energy green card, as well as the 22,000 yuan subsidy provided according to the current national subsidy policy, and local A subsidy of 11,000 yuan is provided, plus exemption from purchase tax and vehicle and vessel tax. That is to say, even if the Corolla PHEV and Ralink PHEV are priced at 200,000 yuan, they will be the same as the current dual-engine version after subsidies. It has to be said that the cost performance is extremely high.

But having said that, Toyota did not put all the cutting-edge technologies on the Corolla and Ralink. The THS system of the plug-in Corolla and Ralink uses the PCU and battery technology of the fourth-generation Prius, but the ECVT hybrid bridge part is the same as the old third-generation Prius.

Toyota did this presumably because the next-generation Corolla and Ralink based on the TNGA architecture will also be released at the end of this year and will be officially launched next year. The PHEV version of their current models is not the main model, and cannot seize the limelight of the new generation of models. Therefore, we had to use the plug-in structure of the third-generation Prius on the basis of the current model, combined with some of the latest Toyota technologies on the fourth-generation Prius, to create two imperfect models, the Corolla PHEV and the Ralink PHEV.
