Ministry of Commerce: Home Appliances Meet the Expected Effect

Shen Danyang, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce, said on the 15th that the home appliance trade-in policy has been implemented for more than two years and has achieved the desired results. The Ministry of Commerce is reporting with the relevant departments to the State Council to request that this work be completed as scheduled.

At the regular monthly press conference held by the Ministry of Commerce at this time, he said that according to the 2010 home appliance trade-in program, the appliance replacement policy was tentatively scheduled to end on December 31, 2011. In the past two years since the implementation of home appliance replacement, it has played an important role in responding to the international financial crisis, expanding consumption, and promoting energy conservation and environmental protection, and has achieved the desired results.

In November, of the 3,000 retail enterprises monitored by the Ministry of Commerce, the sales of home appliances increased by 12.8% year-on-year, and the growth rate fell by 1.3% from October.

Shen Danyang said that due to the expiry of policies such as the first trials of “home appliances going to the countryside” and “renewal of old”, the demand for home appliances has accelerated in the recent period and some consumer demand has been released in advance. The Ministry of Commerce is working on the related supporting work that has ended on schedule.
