The Windows 10 task bar is one of the most frequently involved components of system desktop operations. During the use of the taskbar, multiple people sharing computers or using other setting software may cause changes to the intrinsic taskbar settings, causing an “illusion” of problematic taskbars. Proficiency in the setting method of the task bar is conducive to the smooth solution of problems in the use of the task bar.

1. The taskbar's deviation cannot be restored to its original position

Problem: The taskbar goes to the left and right sides of the desktop or to the top, but no matter how it is dragged, it cannot be moved back to the bottom of the default screen. This is often caused by the taskbar being locked down.

Go to “Settings → Personalization → Taskbar” via the Windows 10 Start menu, and then set the “Lock Task Bar” switch to the “Off” position.

In the "Location of the taskbar on the screen" selection list, select "Bottom" for the location.

2. Cannot control tasks on the secondary monitor

Question: After the two displays are displayed in the extended mode, the second monitor has only the screen and there is no task bar. Therefore, to control the task, it must be operated on the first monitor, which is inconvenient. You need to open the second monitor's taskbar to control the tasks on it.

In the "Task Bar" setting window of the system settings, set the "Multiple Monitors → Show Task Bar on All Displays" option switch to the "On" state.

3. The space occupied by the task bar cannot be released

Question: Whether switching to tablet mode or desktop mode, the taskbar at the bottom of the desktop often occupies space, which is not conducive to space utilization for small-size displays. Can this space be released? As long as the taskbar is automatically hidden, more space will be released.

In the "Taskbar" settings window of the system settings, the "Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode" and "Automatically hide the taskbar in tablet mode" are both placed in the "on" state.

The space on the taskbar itself is not enough. When too many tasks are being processed at a time and the taskbar cannot display all the icons completely, turn on the “Use small taskbar buttons” switch in the taskbar settings list so that the same taskbar can hold more icons. At the same time, select "When the taskbar is full" in the "Merge taskbar button" option list.

4. The program icon disappears from the system tray

Problem: One or more of the clock, volume, network, and power icons in the system tray have disappeared. Selectively open the system icon in the notification area to retrieve it.

In the "Task Bar" setting window of the system settings, click "Notification Area → Open or Close System Icon". Then open the switch behind the system icon.

In addition, some applications will generate shortcut settings icons in the system tray after installation, but they will also disappear when using them. It can be found by the following method.

First, use the “Notification area → Select which icons are displayed on the taskbar” in the system tray setting window, and then turn on the “Always display all icons in the notification area” switch. If too many tray icons affect vision, you can selectively turn on the icons in the list, including the disappeared application icons, after turning off the "Always display all icons in notification area" switch.

The taskbar hidden in the system itself can only achieve floating hidden effects. To achieve real hiding of running program icons on the taskbar, use the software Minime with the default shortcut Ctrl+Shift+z. In addition, to hide all icons on the taskbar, Hide Taskbar software is used to hide the taskbar by simply pressing the shortcut key Ctrl+ESC.

5. Right-click the Start Menu Command Prompt Missing on the Taskbar

Problem: Right-click on the Start button or use the Win+X key combination. The familiar Command Prompt and Command Prompt (Administrator) options are not displayed in the pop-up menu. This is an option that is caused by PowerShell and can be retrieved by setting.

In the system "Taskbar" settings window, "When I right-click the start button or press the Windows key + X, replace the command prompt with Windows PowerShell in the menu" option switch is set to the "off" position, The traditional "command prompt" and "command prompt (admin)" options will be reproduced.
