The United States has developed a new hybrid lamp that is more energy efficient than LEDs.

Researchers at the University of California in the United States have developed a hybrid lamp that is cheaper, more durable, more energy efficient, and brighter than conventional LEDs.

This is a combination of traditional light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and newer luminescent electrochemical cells (LECs), which will eventually produce inexpensive HDTVs and other flat-panel displays that can be used as films to preserve research results. Published in the March issue of Advanced Materials magazine.

Shao Yang, a scientist at the University of California, who is engaged in the research, said, "The research on previous luminescent electrochemical cells has always faced a bottleneck of short service life, and our research has confirmed for the first time that OLEDs have a long service life, even more than organic ones. The LEDs are still longer."

As the usage time increases, the new hybrid lamp will inevitably become darker, however, its darkening speed will be about 1000 times slower than conventional LEDs. After 15 minutes of use, this hybrid lamp is also more energy efficient than conventional LEDs.

The previous illuminating battery mode lamp reached full illumination for only a few minutes and was not suitable for use in dark rooms. Moreover, it ages more quickly. Through this hybrid technology, researchers have solved these problems.

Light-emitting diodes emit light through very fast and subtle electrons, while luminescent electrochemical cells emit light by rearranging larger and slower atoms. When the switch of the hybrid lamp is turned on, the current immediately travels along the metal crucible to illuminate the material. After 20 minutes, the iron ions separated and began to produce light instead of helium electrons. Shao Yang explained that the LED is working first, then the LEC is working.
