Microchip Technology Inc. has released the DSC6000 family of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) oscillators . This new product line reflects the industry's best-in-class technology, featuring the industry's smallest MEMS MHz-class oscillators , the lowest power consumption in the industry, and the freedom to select frequencies from 2 KHz to 100 MHz.
Devices such as wearables and Internet of Things (IoT) devices are extremely demanding in terms of small size, low power consumption, and long-term reliability, and the DSC6000 MEMS oscillator series is used here. An excellent choice for the reference clock for small battery-powered devices. At the same time, the new device is also compliant with the AEC-Q100 standard developed by the Automotive Electronics Council to meet the stringent requirements of mechanical durability and reliability, making it ideal for a wide range of engine room applications.
Microchip 's DSC6000 Series oscillators are available in a variety of sizes including industry-standard 4-pin DFN packages up to 1.6 x 1.2 mm, up to 7 x 5 mm, and operating currents of only 1.3 mA (typical) --- Compared with the lowest power quartz oscillator, its current consumption is less than half of the latter. The new device has a maximum operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, with a maximum drift of +/-25 ppm. Compared to quartz oscillators, they can withstand up to 500 shocks and 5 times more vibration, ensuring rock-solid stability in most work environments.
Rami Kanama, vice president of timing and communications at Microchip , said: "The advantages of MEMS oscillators are significant, far beyond traditional quartz oscillators, especially for applications that require small size, light weight, low power consumption, and accurate timing. The new DSC6000 family of devices is the industry's most complete MEMS-based timing solution from Microchip, which not only enriches the company's MEMS oscillator and MEMS clock generator family, but also delivers low-cost in a tiny package with state-of-the-art technology. The perfect combination of power consumption and high performance is the best choice for IoT and mobile applications."
Microchip's simultaneous ClockWorksTM online configuration tool allows designers to easily select the most appropriate oscillator based on parameters such as frequency, package size, ppm, and temperature range, and request a free sample of the oscillator. In addition, designers can use the TimeFlash field programming toolkit to program one-time programmable (OTP) memory in a blank DSC6000 device for real-time frequency generation.
