According to Recode, a US technology news website, an Apple 1 computer is currently being auctioned on the Charitybuzz website. This product may be a prototype of the R&D process. The current offer has reached $270,000 and the auction has six days left.
The computer and Apple 1, which was later mass-produced by Apple, differed in many ways. Experts pointed out that this may be one of the earliest personal computers developed by Apple.
Corey Cohen, an expert on Apple, said that there is no better vocabulary to describe this product. It can only be said to be a "novice board."
In addition to the computer, the auction included the earliest operating manual, a tape that included the BASIC programming language, and other accessories and files.
Cohen said that Apple's earliest computers (boards) were hand-made by Jobs or Dan Kottke (Apple's No. 12 employee, Steve Jobs's good friend, who traveled to India with Steve Jobs). Cohen also said that it is possible that the circuit board of this auction was made by Jobs himself.
Cohen said that he had talked to Kottke about the early Apple 1 of the auction, but he himself remembered not making this computer board.
However, the tape containing the BASIC language is indeed made by Kottke, with his handwritten text "Good Luck" (good luck).
Cohen said that the earliest owner of the auctioned computer circuit board has no way of knowing. The current owner spent $18,000 in 2000 to buy it, and $18,000 was also the market price at the time.
Since the auction is not over yet, it is still difficult to judge how much the Apple 1 can auction. For reference, Apple's other early computers used to auction up to $900,000.
According to reports, part of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Arizona Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
It should be pointed out that Apple 1 is not a computer in the strict sense. It is just a computer motherboard for early PC enthusiasts. Users also need to purchase display devices themselves and assemble their own computers.
