Following the Toyota Future (Mirai), the world's second mass-produced fuel cell vehicle is officially released to ordinary users ( hydrogenated three-minute battery life of 750km Honda hydrogen fuel cell vehicle Clarity will be on sale ). A few days ago, Japanese carmaker Honda delivered fuel cell vehicle Clarity to six users in California.
This car, similar to Toyota's future and other fuel cell vehicles, uses a hydrogen fuel cell reactor to charge the battery, which in turn supplies power to the motor. Clarity's electric motors can output a maximum power of 177 horsepower and a maximum torque of 300 Nm. At the same time, the lithium battery pack is similar to Tesla, and under the car floor, two hydrogen storage tanks are located below the rear seats.
Clarity's filling of liquid hydrogen fuel at the hydrogen refueling station can be completed in 3 to 5 minutes, with a full life of about 750 kilometers.
In March, Honda delivered several Clarity fuel cell vehicles to corporate users in the United States, but later changed its product plan and began to open reservations to the average consumer. Although Clarity is the second mass-produced fuel cell vehicle after Toyota's future, the consumer who drove the car was not purchased, but signed a three-year lease contract of $369 a month.
Why is rent not bought? Because the fuel cell car is too expensive. When Toyota releases in 2015, the biggest significance of evaluating this car is not how hard it is to mass production, but the cost reduction to the extent that it can be sold at a price: not including the subsidy price of 6.7 million yen, more than 400,000 yuan. .
This price is too expensive for a family car, but for a fuel cell car, it is a huge breakthrough in cost reduction. The Nikkei News reported that because of the high cost of reducing the amount of precious metals in the reactor, increasing the energy density of the reactor, and enhancing the strength of the carbon fiber hydrogen storage tank, Toyota once thought that the car was developed when developing fuel cell vehicles. The price will exceed 100 million yen (more than 5.9 million yuan) and cannot be sold at all. From the concept car of this car announced to mass production in 2008, the cost has been reduced to the initial 5%.
Obviously, Honda's fuel cell technology has not achieved close results with Toyota in the direction of low cost. Clarity has not announced the potential selling price, but the policy of renting only and not selling clearly shows that the price of this car will scare consumers. But the high energy density of fuel cell vehicles, the rapid addition of fuel, the advantages of zero emissions and electrification now seem to be the ultimate direction for the future evolution of the car.
Honda's current sale of Clarity is in Southern California, where there are about 70 hydrogen refueling stations in the world, with the most intensive hydrogen refueling stations outside of Japan. At present, China's subsidy policy for new energy vehicles includes fuel cell vehicles. However, there are only a handful of domestic car companies doing fuel cell research and development. As of this month, only the SAIC Roewe 950 fuel cell vehicle was included in the subsidy list. This car actually appeared only in the news, and the hydrogen refueling station is currently only BP. A demonstration project established in Beijing.
Tian Zhongyi, the head of Toyota's fuel cell research and development, once said that Toyota does not want fuel cell vehicles to be "the occasional ones open the money", so there is no way to make the infrastructure such as hydrogen refueling stations more developed. There are many car companies that develop fuel cells. If more and more car companies invest in mass production research, the development of fuel cells may be faster.
