Philips and Ericsson launch LED network light Zero Site

Ericsson and Philips announced yesterday that the two companies will collaborate on a project to connect smart LED lights that will bring green lighting and mobile broadband to the city. These connected street lights have solved two problems for the city at the same time. Green lighting achieves the goal of sustainable development. On the other hand, these street lights can also help network operators to provide better urban mobile broadband coverage.

Ericsson refers to this technology as Zero Site, which integrates telecommunications equipment into the poles of urban street lights. The lighting equipment comes from Philips, and the space reserved for telecommunications equipment is designed for Ericsson's communications equipment. Mobile network operators working with Ericsson can choose to rent space in these street lights and install their network equipment. Philips said that by renting space in these poles, urban lighting projects will be further developed.

After launching LED technology test projects in 12 major cities around the world, Philips and its partners found that LEDs can usually achieve 50%-70% energy efficiency, and when LED lighting is combined with smart control, energy savings can be as high as 80%. The project also found that the residents of the experimental city prefer LED lighting, not only because it is more environmentally friendly and energy-saving, but also because it is different from the orange light emitted by the traditional high-pressure sodium lamp. The white light of the LED street lamp can enhance people's sense of security and visibility. high.
