According to Reuters news on July 4, Volkswagen Group will start selling Passat and Tiguan in Iran from August. After 17 years, Volkswagen has returned to the revival of the Middle East market with the aim of reducing dependence on markets such as China and Brazil.
Volkswagen said it has signed an agreement with Iranian importer Mammut Khodro Group to import Tiguan and Passat to the country. These cars will be sold through eight dealers, mainly in Tehran. Anders Sundt Jensen, project manager for the Volkswagen Iranian market, said that Volkswagen has returned to Iran, filling a gap in the global auto market. Volkswagen is strengthening its global influence and will also provide quality models for Iranian consumers.
The Iranian government estimates that in the medium to long term, Iran will have 3 million passenger cars registered each year. According to the International Automobile Manufacturers Association (OICA), Iran’s car sales reached 1.3 million last year.
Founded in 1995, the Mammut Group is one of the largest private companies in Iran, with operations in the automotive, construction, information technology, logistics, communications and financial services sectors, mainly in the Middle East.
